Stand Up to Cancer Wins the 2015 World Series
It appears that Doc Brown and Marty McFly were wrong, the Chicago Cubs were not the winners of the 2015 World Series. By that same note, neither were the New York Mets who lost the series in game 5 to a 7-2 victory by the Kansas City Royals. We at PinProsPlus are big fans of baseball and support the sport and the thrill that comes from pin trading. We would like to extend a big congratulations to the Kansas City Royals and all of their fans for taking home this beautiful trophy. For those of you who follow us, it is no secret that we also support many charities, some of which are even sport related. That is why we would like to tell you about the biggest winner of the 2015 World Series: Stand Up to Cancer. With a moving moment in Game 3, this charity focusing on pediatric cancer received a lot of well-deserved attention. Here is more information on Stand Up to Cancer and how it affected the World Series.
Stand Up to Cancer
Stand Up to Cancer (or SU2C) is a non-profit organization (100% of donations going to cancer research programs) founded in May of 2008 and has funded over 150 clinical trials with donations received. Their mission is to help put an end to cancer now. Their program’s slogan aptly describes their beliefs: “This is where the end of cancer begins: when we unite in one movement, unstoppable.” SU2C teams up with scientists and other experts in the field of cancer research. They help facilitate collaboration between researchers in different fields and locations and fund the needs to make that research successful. They promote what’s known as “translational research.” This format is one that makes it easy for other partners and institutions to pick up and utilize the information that others have discovered. It allows for a rapid transition from lab to clinic to save as many lives as possible by minimizing delay. We lose too many people to the disease already and Stand Up to Cancer is here to stop it. Since the beginning of SU2C, they have been partnered with Major League Baseball. Being partnered with the MLB has helped raise awareness in unique and memorable ways.

MLB, SU2C, & the 2015 World Series Game 3
Baseball is the American sport. Children and adults look forward to every spring and every October to root on their favorite teams and even play themselves. It is no wonder that Major League Baseball partnered with Stand Up to Cancer to bring special attention to pediatric cancer. The MLB, SU2C and MasterCard have worked together to promote cancer awareness during the annual Home Run Derby. They hand out placards on which people can write names of loved ones afflicted by the disease whether their battles are ongoing, won, or lost. They communally stand up and raise awareness for the programs, cancer research, and overall unity for the cause. Standing up to cancer received a larger audience in Game 4 of the 2014 World Series when the crowd, players, and officials alike stood up as a community while holding their placards. The tradition continued in Game 3 of the 2015 World Series. The focus was on pediatric cancer as many children look up to our athletes as their heroes and sources of inspiration. The event was an emotional event for player and fan alike and received a solid amount of air time on television. In smaller ways, the Fox Sports broadcasters have been wearing Stand Up to Cancer lapel pins to keep the cause in people’s minds.
With more support, Stand Up to Cancer intends to end cancer altogether and until then will be a source of hope, inspiration, and comfort for people affected by the disease. To learn more, please visit their site.
